Risk

Chapter 3

The morning dawned and as I arose going about my ablutions, a sense of calm, new to my experience arose with it. Irrespective of how this meeting went down, I was proud of my time on campus thus far knowing that I had done my best. No small amount of credit for the change in my mood goes to Lilith I thought as the hot water sent its needles into my skin. Sigh, I wonder how long I should wait, she seemed pretty firm about the "project" she is working on putting demands on her time. Stop it Risk, mooning like a lovesick puppy is not how you make friends and influence people.

I made my way to the commons then, and as I entered the board room, I could not help but notice the cute female student sitting at the table with the board. Attractive, but their was just something different about her, if only I could put my finger on it. I was directed to a seat, and then the student stood up introducing herself as Jill. She went on to tell me how she had been approached by the board to take over the role of Mentor to the Sorority house when it was formed.  Telling me it was not an easy responsibility, requiring much determination and effort, along with a certain amount of heartache, she ended by saying that nonetheless, she was glad she had taken the opportunity when it presented itself.

Taking her seat, Jill then turned towards the regents and nodded. The woman in the center seat spoke up then starting with thanking Jill for her comments. Standing, she walked over to me and asked if I knew why I was there. When I answered negatively, she went on with how it was not right for the campus to have a Sorority without a corresponding Fraternity. The opportunity to correct this had presented itself this semester as the Ward Industries heir has enrolled and expressed a desire to fund the acquisition of a house to serve as a base for the Fraternity he wished to start.

I could not believe what I was hearing. They wanted me, clumsy air headed me, to serve as Mentor and leading light to a group of young boy, err men. Not only that, they were offering me money to do it, in addition to deferring the costs of the remainder of my education. At this point, she suggested we break for coffee to give me time to think the proposal over. Jill smiled at me, walked over and gave me a hug, saying welcome to the club brother. Laughing at the look on my face, she said she could tell I was too smart to turn down the offer. Leading me downstairs, we got our coffees and sat down.

Something strange then, when I asked how Lilith was, a cloud passed in front of her eyes. Shaking it off, she said she was fine, why did I ask? I decided that this Jill was someone I could trust so I poured my heart out, telling her how I thought I was in love with Lilith, but needed to see her more to find out for certain. Smiling Jill said she was happy for Lilith and I, but did know that she was very busy right now, and that I needed to grant her space for a time. I don't know why, but Jill's words put my heart to rest. With determination, I finished my coffee, thanked her, and went into the board room and accepted their offer. So it was that I soon found myself back at the dorm packing, and then walking across campus to the new "Horn Dog Fraternity" house.

I was greeted by the Fraternity's founding member (and Bankroll) Thomas Ward.

Taking my duties seriously I started by asking him if he had completed his first assignment yet, and when the answer was negative, despite his somewhat crestfallen expression I suggested we get to work then, their would be time to party later.
