Angela

Chapter 4

I knew something was up as soon as I returned from class and saw Lilith sitting on the couch waiting. It was never easy to tell with my sibling, as the wheels of her mind churned, whether something was truly serious or merely an interesting conundrum as she would put it. I sat down next to her, looked over expectantly and asked "what's up?"

"There is no easy way to tell you this Angela, so I will just dive right in" she said as she threw her hands in the air in exasperation and then the shoe dropped. "I am pregnant" was all that I heard. My head whirled, my past, her past, our past, our future. Finally I stammered "you can't be pregnant. What loser did you ball that left you in this condition?"

She went on to relate how one day when we all were at class, Uncle John... "Uncle John" I screamed, to which she responded "It's not like he is really an uncle, he is just married to our aunt Jennifer." I then got steamed. "This is not a game damn it Lilith. Think of how many lives have the potential to be ruined by this, not the least being the child. We are in college for creators sake, the regents will throw you, and maybe me, out."

Sibling looked me in the eye coolly and stated "I realize I can not keep the baby and have decided that if its father will not accept it I will put it up for adoption. I am giving birth to it though and nothing you can say will change that." The coolness in her eyes then turned to steel with her next words being "that, is final."

One thing I have learned about my twin sister over the years is that for good or ill, once she has made her mind up to follow a certain path their is no deterring her. With that, I shelved the pangs of pain and sadness I felt for myself and focused on how "WE" were going to do this. "Once you start showing, you will have to stay hidden. I will pull my hair around and dress up like you going to class in your place." At this Lilith started laughing uncontrollably,  I tried to ignore her, putting it down to a hormone fit but finally had to stop laying out our plans and asked her what was so funny.

"I'm sorry twin, but you don't have the three B's you need to pull that off." As she started laughing again, this time at the puzzled look on my face, through her tears she managed to get out "yes, the three B's, Butt, Boobs, and Brains." "Bitch" I said as I hit her (gently) with a sofa cushion, "make that 4 B's, you forgot the Bitch. What's wrong with my butt?" This of course only made her laugh more, a laugh we both needed as I joined in her mirth.

With our plan of attack in place, Lilith stood and hugged me saying "thanks twin, I knew I could count on you." Then, since she would soon be cloistered she went out for a walk to commune with the creator and her thoughts, in the cool fall evening air one last time."  As I watched her walk out the door, my thoughts turned to what we should tell our parents. Nothing I decided, it would be better for them not to know that Uncle John and Aunt Jennifer's new child when it arrived, was their grandchild. Next step, I went off to find Jill and fill her in on what has transpired.
